Frequently Asked Questions

How do I identify the key columns for matching rows between datasets?

Look for unique identifiers in your datasets like ID fields, product codes, or customer numbers. You can select multiple columns to create composite keys that together uniquely identify each row. Our tool will suggest potential key columns based on column names.

Can I compare datasets with different column structures?

Yes! Our column mapping feature allows you to match columns between datasets even when they have different names or structures. Map source columns to their corresponding target columns through our intuitive interface.

What's the maximum file size I can upload for comparison?

Our tool supports files up to 10MB. For larger datasets, consider breaking them into smaller chunks or using our API for programmatic comparison of larger datasets.

How does the significance threshold feature work?

The significance threshold filters out minor numerical differences based on percentage change. For example, setting a 5% threshold means changes smaller than 5% won't be highlighted as differences. This is particularly useful for financial or measurement data where small variations may not be meaningful.

Can I save my comparison results for later reference?

Yes, you can save your comparison sessions with custom names. These are stored in your browser and available when you return. You can also export results to Excel or CSV for offline analysis or sharing with colleagues.

How do I handle special data types like dates or numbers during comparison?

Our tool automatically detects common data types and applies appropriate comparison logic. For dates, it recognizes various formats and compares them correctly. For numbers, it can identify meaningful changes versus minor variations using the significance threshold.

Where are my comparison sessions stored?

Your comparison sessions are stored locally in your browser's storage. This means they're accessible only on the device and browser you used to create them. No data is sent to our servers, ensuring complete privacy of your sensitive data.

How many comparison sessions can I save?

The tool automatically stores your 10 most recent comparison sessions. When you save a new session beyond this limit, the oldest one will be automatically removed to make room for your new comparison.

Will my comparison sessions be saved permanently?

No, comparison sessions are not stored permanently. They will be lost if you clear your browser data, use private/incognito browsing, or if your browser automatically clears local storage. For long-term storage, we recommend using the export feature to save your comparison results as Excel or CSV files.
